Synopsis

Right before the opening ceremony of the newly opened Ilsung Art Museum, the museum director says that the pig’s head offered on the ceremonial table is not smiling. One of the museum staffs, Daeho, must find the best smiling pig’s head, while battling through his nervous breakdown.

Director's Note

In Korea, there is a traditional ceremony called Gosa(고사) where you offer food to spirits to avoid misfortune and bring good luck. During a Gosa, typically you offer a pig’s head with a big smile. But that smile, somewhat obviously, is made by a butcher after the pig dies. That made me realize how we, humans, are also often forced by sometimes-absurd peers, society, and the system to put on a smile against our will, and how that could drive us mad.

I was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. I studied aesthetics and graduated Seoul National University. To fulfill my long-lasting dream to make films, I started making films as an independent filmmaker since 2018, and has been writing, directing and working as a production staff in feature films.
