Director's Note
"Fantasy Theater" is a digital short film production project. Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF), KT&G Sangsangmadang and INDIESTORY Inc. cooperated to support three selected directors in funding. In 2010, the project was designed to combine the film genre ‘horror’ and ‘fantasy’, and its spatial trait ‘theater’. Three directors who are working both in commercial films and independent film industry, LEE Kyu-man, HAN Ji-hye and KIM Tae-gon joined 2010’s project.

“The Famished” directed by LEE Kyu-man who directed the feature film , is a film about the memories. Starting with the premise that a dead man can move toward the next world only after he eats up his memories of this world, the film moves between the theater performance co-directed with the theater director CHO Yong-seok, and the leading man’s present.

HAN Ji-hye, whose last short film won the Best Award of JIFF 2008 Korean Short Films Competition, directed a unique fantasy horror, “The Loneliness of Butcher Boy”. She subversively re-interprets the Greek myth of Minotaur, the creature with the head of a bull on the body of a man, in a contemporary perspective.

“Ten Million”, the film of KIM Tae-gon, who directed the independent feature film in 2009, describes the situation of independent filmmakers who struggle to sell their films in the huge film industry in a hilarious yet scary way.
