In May, 1980, the Korean military junta usurped the reins of government through coup d'etat. People demanded the abolition of a martial law. But the militarists decided to expand the martial law to the whole nation. The military authorities put down popular uprising in the city of Gwangju by batons and bayonets. But the suppression could not stop people from struggling and fighting. The uprising was the birth of civic mind. It was also the beginning of a western-style civil society and Korean modernity.
is about 5 people¡¯s songs that were used as tools for resistance and struggle during the Dark Age of Korea Democracy in 80's. People used to sing for hopes and dreams. These songs show what people thought about life and death and how they healed up their wounds. In addition, they remind us of a flower and a gun that we should bear in mind.
