The father leaves home each day bragging at the top of his lungs but crawls back home again each day, and the mother receives him silently. The oldest sister fumes at her mother for the life she is leading, while the female university student who used to rent a room from them has disappeared. The mother has a burden of making money for living because of the father who is chasing an absurd dream of being the chief of a district. 16-year-old son, Jin-woo starts newspaper delivery in order to support the family’s living after realizing the difficult life of his mother. And that’s where he happens to meet Chang-geun who turns to be the actual cause for him to first learn the habit of drinking and smoking and get to know the real world.

This movie is a coming-of age film about a boy who lived in the 80s. It is also about a boy's family and personal memories of the director himself at the time.

ROH Hong-jin
Born in Seoul, Korea 1976.
He majored in media engineering at Seoul National University of Science and Technology.
He worked with KIM Ki-duk Kim in “Spring Summer Fall Winter and Spring”(2003) and with SONG Il-gon in “Spider Forest”(2004). He was the assistant director in SONG Il-gon’s “The Magicians”(2004). “BOY” is his first feature film.
